What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an internal fault in its EEPROM memory, which holds calibration and parameter data. Although the code is described as ID number unregistered, the condition concerns the memory function itself.
Possible causes
- Communication interference
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the engine control module are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2Test relevant functions in the car, for example with buttons, controls or a short road test, to see whether the fault is present now
- 3Read off the fault codes, clear the fault code, switch the ignition on and wait a while so the control module can run its test
- 4If none of the symptoms can be reproduced, the fault may have been temporary, or the control module does not detect it at the moment
- 5If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- The engine stalls, sometimes or all the time
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- A warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
