What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an internal fault in its EEPROM memory. Although the code is described as ID number unregistered in connection with programming, the condition concerns an internal memory fault in the engine control module.
Possible causes
- Communication interference
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the engine control module are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2Test relevant functions in the car with buttons, controls or a short road test to see whether the fault is present now
- 3Read off the fault codes, clear the fault code, switch the ignition on and wait a while so the control module can run its test
- 4Check that the fault code is no longer active when the test has finished
- 5If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- The engine stalls
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- A warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
