What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an incorrect internal function in its own supervision functions. The fault is tested while the engine is running, and the code is set only once the conditions are met. The fault may show as poor performance or as an engine that does not start.
Possible causes
- Software fault in the engine control module (ECM)
- A fault inside the engine control module (ECM) itself
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and note which are present before clearing any
- 2Clear the fault code, start the engine and let it run for a while so the control module can run its test
- 3Check that the fault code is no longer active when the test has finished
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop check that the engine control module has the latest software and replace the control module if the fault remains

- The engine performs poorly and lacks power while driving
- The engine stalls at start-up
- The engine does not start, and the starter either does not turn or turns without the engine starting
- A clicking sound may be heard during start attempts
