What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has registered that its internal communication is incorrect. The code states bus off, which means the control module has temporarily stopped taking part in CAN communication.
Possible causes
- Communication interference
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and note which are present before clearing any
- 2Clear the fault code, switch the ignition on and wait a while so the control module can run its test
- 3Check that the fault code is no longer active when the test has finished. If it is gone, the fault may have been temporary
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
