What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the system relay, which releases the voltage with a set delay after the engine is switched off so that the control module can save ongoing work. The code is set if the relay is slow to release, and also if it releases too early, meaning a signal that is too low.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to earth
- The wiring from the system relay contact is short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged system relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2Check that the connectors to the system relay are firmly seated and clean
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the system relay has no contact with earth (the body)
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire from the system relay contact has no contact with battery positive
- 5If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the system relay
