ECM-P165000 - Power Steering Pressure Switch Out Of Self Test Range. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)

Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) calculates the desired torque and compensates for torque losses caused by the power steering. The fault code is set when the signal from the power steering pressure switch is outside its normal working range. On cars with hydraulic power steering, the switch measures the pressure in the steering system.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connections
- Open circuit, or short to earth, on the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2On cars with hydraulic power steering: check that the connector to the pressure switch is firmly seated and free from oxide and corrosion
- 3On cars with hydraulic power steering: use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the pressure switch has no break and no contact with earth or battery positive
- 4With a diagnostic tool on a car with hydraulic power steering, read the pressure switch signal in live data and see whether it changes as the wheel is turned
- 5If the fault code returns: have a workshop check the signal and replace the power steering pressure switch if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
