Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The vehicle's control modules communicate over the CAN network, and the engine control module (ECM) has detected disturbances on it. This is a general CAN link fault with no more detailed description of the fault type. When there is a communication fault in the system, other control modules may find it difficult to reach the engine control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- A control module on the same part of the CAN network has an internal fault
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and troubleshoot the codes that are present first, as they may show which part of the CAN network is disturbed
- 2Check that the connectors in the CAN network are firmly seated and free from oxide
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires are not broken or short-circuited to each other
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop check whether another control module on the CAN network is faulty
Symptoms you may notice1
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
What the fault can affect2
- The engine control module shuts itself off in bus-off mode and stays off until the power is cut and then reconnected
- When the power is reconnected, the engine control module makes new attempts to communicate
