What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks its configuration ID against the signal setup that the central electronic module (CEM) broadcasts on the CAN network. The fault code is set if the IDs do not match or if communication between the two control modules is interrupted. Although the code is described as a supervision software fault, the condition concerns configuration and communication.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, because the engine control module is not intended for this car, for example a used unit with other software or hardware
- Break in the CAN wires between the engine control module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes, especially whether any code is stored in the central electronic module (CEM)
- 2Has a used engine control module from another car been fitted recently? The fault code may be due to it not being intended for this car
- 3Inspect the CAN wires between the engine control module and the CEM for breaks and loose connectors
- 4If the fault remains: have a workshop program the engine control module with the correct software for the car
Symptoms you may notice2
- The cruise control does not engage
- A red text message and a red warning symbol appear in the display
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
