What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks its configuration ID against the signal setup that the central electronic module (CEM) broadcasts on the CAN network. The fault code is set when they do not match, or when communication between the control modules is broken. Although the code indicates an electrical fault, the condition concerns configuration.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, because the engine control module is not intended for this car, for example a used unit with other software or hardware
- Break in the CAN wires between the engine control module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes stored in the central electronic module (CEM) and note them
- 2Check that the connectors in the CAN network between the engine control module and the CEM are firmly seated and clean
- 3Check that the engine control module is intended for this particular car and whether it has been replaced recently
- 4If the fault remains: have a workshop check that the correct software is loaded in the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The cruise control does not engage
- A text message and a red warning symbol appear in the display
