What does this fault code mean?
The engine has demand-controlled piston cooling, which saves fuel and reduces emissions. The engine control module can close the piston cooling valve and uses an oil pressure and temperature sensor to check that the oil pressure changes as expected when the valve opens. The fault code is set when the pressure does not follow what is expected, even though the code is described as an electrical solenoid circuit fault.
Possible causes
- The electric piston cooling valve sticks or has jammed
What you can do
- 1Check the engine oil level, since the fault depends on a change in oil pressure
- 2Start the engine and let it idle. Listen and look for anything unusual at idle
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the oil pressure in live data with the engine at idle and see whether the value changes
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop check the sensor and replace the piston cooling valve if needed
