What does this fault code mean?
The engine uses demand-controlled piston cooling, which saves fuel and reduces emissions, and the engine control module (ECM) controls the piston cooling valve. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is constantly low, which is described as a signal wire short-circuited to earth. The piston cooling then cannot be controlled, and engine torque may be limited.
Possible causes
- Connector or cable is damaged
- The signal wire is short-circuited to earth
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2Check the connectors to the piston cooling valve for play and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the valve has no contact with earth (the body)
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop check the valve, the wiring and the oil pressure

- The engine performs poorly and lacks power
