What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the clutch pedal position from two sensors: a position sensor that reaches it via the central electronic module (CEM) and a position switch. The fault code is set when the pedal is pressed but the clutch does not open. The fault code does not indicate damage to the clutch pedal switches.
Possible causes
- Mechanically damaged clutch
- Damaged clutch hydraulics
- Air in the hydraulic system
- Leak in the hydraulic system
- Damaged slave cylinder
What you can do
- 1Check the hydraulic fluid level in the clutch reservoir and look for leaks
- 2Press the clutch pedal a few times and feel whether it becomes spongy, heavy or stiff
- 3If you suspect air in the clutch hydraulics: have a workshop bleed the system
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop check the clutch and the slave cylinder
Symptoms you may notice5
- The clutch grabs, slips or jerks
- Hydraulic fluid leaks from the clutch
- The clutch pedal squeaks
- The clutch pedal has an engagement point that is too high or too low
- The clutch pedal feels heavy or stiff
What the fault can affect1
- The engine may shut off
