What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the signals from the two position sensors on the throttle body. The fault code is set when one of the signals is unreasonably high. The control module then uses the other signal, and the cruise control is switched off while the fault is active.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wires short-circuited to voltage
- Supply voltage short-circuited to battery voltage
- Open circuit on the earth wire
- Earth wire short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged throttle body
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the throttle body are firmly seated and free from oxide
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires to the throttle body have no contact with battery positive, and that the earth wire has no break
- 3Have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the fault code. If it shows that the fault is present now, it is active
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the throttle body
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine performance is reduced
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- The cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect2
- The other sensor's signal is used instead
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
