What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the signals from the two position sensors on the throttle body. The fault code is set when one of the signals is unreasonably low. The control module then uses the other signal, and the cruise control is switched off while the fault is active.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wires short-circuited to earth
- Open circuit on the signal wires
- Voltage supply short-circuited to earth
- Open circuit on the voltage supply
- Damaged throttle body
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the throttle body are firmly seated and free from oxide
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires are not short-circuited to earth and have no break
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the voltage supply to the throttle body is not short-circuited to earth
- 4If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the throttle body
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine performance is reduced
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- The cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect2
- The other sensor's signal is used instead
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
