Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named fuel additive level low, it concerns the communication between the engine control module (ECM) and the additive dosage module (ADM). It is stored if the ECM cannot communicate with the ADM, or if the ADM requests that the warning lamp is lit together with a text message. The code therefore points to a communication problem, not a level.
Possible causes
- CAN communication fault between the engine control module and the additive dosage module (ADM)
- CAN-related trouble codes stored in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Trouble codes stored in the additive dosage module (ADM) itself
What you can do
- 1Read the trouble codes in the additive dosage module (ADM) first and remedy them
- 2Then read off the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy any CAN-related faults
- 3Check that the connectors to the ADM and the CEM are secure and free from corrosion
- 4Clear the code only once the underlying faults are remedied, then check whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check communication between the control modules
Symptoms you may notice1
