What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the speed value from the transmission control module (TCM) with the value from the brake control module (BCM), which serves as the primary input. The code is set when the transmission control module's value has too low a quality, and The ECM uses the speed value, among other things, to control idle speed.
Possible causes
- Faulty speed value from the transmission control module (TCM)
- Contact resistance in the CAN connections
- Open circuit in one or both CAN cables
What you can do
- 1Check whether communication-related CAN trouble codes are stored in other control modules and remedy them first, as they most likely lead to the cause
- 2Read off the trouble codes in the transmission control module (TCM) and remedy them, as it is the signal from there that is incorrect
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network are secure and free from corrosion, and twist and wiggle the cable harness where it can be reached to see whether communication drops out
- 4The fault may lie in another control module on the same CAN network. If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment identify which control module is communicating incorrectly
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the speed values from the BCM and TCM in live data during a test drive
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
