What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously checks its own components and functions and has registered an internal fault. Although the code is named invalid scan tool communication or request, it applies to that internal fault in the engine control module.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and run the engine for a while to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code after the control module's internal test has been run with the engine running
- 3Have a workshop load the latest software into the engine control module
- 4If the code returns after this, the engine control module should be replaced, which a workshop does
Symptoms you may notice2
- Warning symbol and text message shown in the driver information display
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output and speed are limited
