What does this fault code mean?
The position of the accelerator pedal is sent in analogue form to the central electronic module (CEM), which passes the information on to the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN network. The ECM also monitors the accelerator pedal with two sensors and compares them with each other. The code is set when the ECM judges the pedal position from the analogue sensor to be incorrect, or when the CEM reports that its information is incorrect.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in the connectors
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Short circuit to ground or supply voltage, or an open circuit, in the signal cable from the accelerator pedal sensor
- Open circuit or short circuit in the power supply or ground lead to the accelerator pedal sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the accelerator pedal returns fully and does not stick
- 3Check the connectors to the accelerator pedal sensor and to the central electronic module for play, oxidation and damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that the accelerator pedal position changes smoothly when the pedal is pressed and released
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the accelerator pedal sensor and the central electronic module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Warning symbol and text message shown in the driver information display
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
