What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the variable intake system by comparing the measured air flow with the expected air flow. The code is set when the lower secondary throttle unit is detected open, or when the brake control module (BCM) sends a signal that its information is incorrect. In the latter case the fault lies outside the intake system.
Possible causes
- Damaged secondary throttle unit (lower)
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM), where the cause should be looked for
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the lower secondary actuator and check that the throttle unit moves
- 2Check the signal cable with a multimeter for an open circuit and a short circuit to supply voltage
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment read off the brake control module (BCM), as the cause may lie there
- 4If the brakes or ABS behave abnormally, have the car checked by a workshop before it is driven further
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car performs worse and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- Cruise control does not hold the set speed or cannot be engaged
- The ABS does not work or engages unexpectedly
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
