What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates an intermittent circuit fault in the signal to the swirl damper motor, meaning a fault that appears now and then and then disappears. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the circuit and sets the code when the signal is wrong. The disturbance may lie in the cable, in a connector or in the swirl damper motor.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
- Swirl damper motor or linkage sticking
- Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl throttle duct
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If the fault is intermittent: twist and wiggle the cable harness and connectors where they can be reached, and see whether the code returns
- 3Check that the connectors to the swirl damper motor are secure and free from oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code after a test drive to see whether the fault is active at that moment
- 5If the fault remains or returns, have a workshop check the swirl damper motor and the signal cable with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
