What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named pulse width high above maximum, it applies when the swirl damper position differs from the calculated position. The engine control module (ECM) compares the damper position with a calculated value and sets the code when the position is incorrect. The cause may lie in the swirl damper, its linkage or its motor.
Possible causes
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl throttle duct
- Swirl damper motor sticking
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: command the swirl damper motor and check that it moves smoothly without sticking
- 2Check that the linkage between the motor and the swirl channel is intact and that nothing is sticking there
- 3Check that the swirl damper motor itself is not damaged or sticking
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the swirl damper motor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
