What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named intake manifold runner position sensor circuit, it applies to the signal to the swirl damper motor. The engine control module (ECM) monitors that signal and sets the code when it is wrong. The general electrical fault may lie in the supply, in the signal wire or in the motor.
Possible causes
- Power supply short-circuited to battery voltage
- Open circuit or short to voltage in the signal wire
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- Trouble code ECM-P201404 can cause this code
- Trouble code ECM-P201449 can cause this code
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code with the ignition on and see whether it returns after the repair
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the swirl damper motor is not shorted to battery voltage
- 4Check the connectors to the swirl damper motor for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the swirl damper motor and the signal wire
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
