What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named system internal failures, it applies to the signal to the swirl damper motor, which the engine control module (ECM) checks. The code is set when that signal is incorrect, and a power supply shorted to battery voltage can cause it.
Possible causes
- Trouble code ECM-P201401 can cause this code
- Power supply short-circuited to battery voltage
- Open circuit or short to voltage in the signal wire
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- Trouble code ECM-P201449 can cause this code
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the swirl damper motor has no contact with battery voltage
- 3Check that the swirl damper and the linkage move freely and do not stick
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code and see whether it is active with the ignition on
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop read the code status with diagnostic equipment and check the swirl damper motor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
