What does this fault code mean?

The ECM runs a learning routine for the swirl damper position, and the code is set when that routine is judged incorrect. It can also be set when the damper reaches its position too slowly and deviates from the calculated position. The learning is checked with the engine switched off, while the comparison with the calculated position is made with the engine running.

    Possible causes

    • Linkage or swirl damper sticking
    • Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl duct
    • Swirl throttle motor sticking
    • Defective swirl damper motor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check whether the arm between the swirl motor and the swirl duct has come loose
    2. 2Check that the linkage and the swirl duct move freely and are not damaged
    3. 3Check that the swirl throttle motor is not sticking and is not damaged
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the swirl damper position in live data with the engine running and check that it follows the calculated position
    5. 5Clear the code only once the mechanics have been checked, then see whether it returns

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
