What does this fault code mean?
The supply voltage to the swirl damper position sensor is checked by the engine control module (ECM). The code is set when the signal is wrong, and it is tested with the ignition on. The cause may lie in the supply, in the signal wire or in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Trouble code ECM-P201600 can cause this code
- Power supply short-circuited to battery voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Open circuit in the earth lead
- Damaged sensor
- Short circuit to ground in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors are secure
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire is not in contact with battery voltage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the earth lead to the sensor has no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the position sensor signal in live data with the ignition on and check that it changes as the damper moves
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the position sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
