What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named circuit low, it applies when the signal from the exhaust temperature sensor deviates from the expected value. The ECM watches the exhaust temperature and sets the code when the signal is wrong or falls outside the sensor's working range.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the earth lead
- Damaged exhaust temperature sensor
- Software fault in the engine control module
- Trouble code ECM-P208429 can cause this code
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the connectors to the sensor are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no short circuit to ground and no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the exhaust temperature sensor value in live data with the engine running and check that it changes as the engine is loaded
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor and, if the fault comes from the software, update the engine control module software

- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power, especially at take-off
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally

- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control does not operate
- Soot particles are not burnt off
