What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the reading from the temperature sensor ahead of the catalytic converter with a calculated value. The code is set when the sensor gives an incorrect value, and a signal wire in contact with voltage can then be the cause. A damaged sensor or an incorrect reading from the mass air flow meter can also trigger it.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged exhaust temperature sensor before the catalytic converter
- The mass air flow meter gives an incorrect reading, for example because of charge air leakage
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: start the engine, read the sensor value in live data and compare how it changes with engine load
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage
- 3Look for loose or corroded connections at the sensor connector
- 4Check that the sensor wiring is not pinched or chafed
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated value is used instead of the sensor signal
