What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the exhaust gas temperature and sets the code when the reading from the temperature sensor ahead of the catalytic converter is wrong. The car may then run with poorer performance, because a calculated value is used instead of the sensor signal.
Possible causes
- Trouble code ECM-P054600 can cause this code
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Earth lead short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged temperature sensor at the catalytic converter
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Trouble code ECM-P054500 can cause this code
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Twist and wiggle the wiring at the sensor and see whether the signal drops out
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage or ground
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: see in live data whether the sensor value follows the engine warming up
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the sensor resistance and repair the wiring as needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, especially during acceleration
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated value is used instead of the sensor signal
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
