What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches exhaust system temperature and sets the code when the signal from the sensor is wrong, meaning the value it reports does not match what the ECM expects. The cause is either in the wiring or in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged temperature sensor at the catalytic converter
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the sensor wiring has no open circuit
- 3Look for contact resistance or oxidation in the sensor's connector
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: see in live data whether the sensor value follows the engine warming up
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the sensor resistance and repair the wiring as needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, especially during acceleration
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
