What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates an intermittent fault in the exhaust temperature sensor signal ahead of the catalytic converter. The ECM checks that the signal follows a calculated value, and the code is set when the signal is noisy.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged exhaust temperature sensor ahead of the catalytic converter
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Twist and wiggle the wiring and connectors at the sensor and see whether the signal becomes unsteady
- 3Check that the connections are secure and free from oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the sensor value in live data with the ignition on and see whether it jumps
- 5If the fault is intermittent: check the sensor and its wiring carefully, and have a workshop read the code if it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- No exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control
- Soot particles are not burnt off
