What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps track of exhaust system temperature and compares the readings of the catalytic converter sensor and the particulate filter sensor. The code is set when the difference between the two sensor readings becomes too large.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit on the signal wire
- Damaged temperature sensor at the catalytic converter
- Damaged temperature sensor at the particulate filter
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: with the engine warm, the catalytic converter sensor should read slightly higher than the particulate filter sensor, and a deviation shows which sensor is wrong
- 2Check that the connectors to both sensors are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires have no open circuit
- 4Check that the sensor wiring is not chafed or pinched
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the sensor resistances and replace the sensor that is wrong
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
