What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches exhaust temperature through the signal from the particulate filter temperature sensor. The code is set when that signal deviates from the expected value, which may come from a connection or wiring fault, or from a sensor stuck at one value.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged particulate filter temperature sensor, for example stuck at one value
- The mass air flow meter gives an incorrect reading, for example because of charge air leakage
What you can do
- 1Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the sensor has no open circuit, and that the connectors are free from oxidation
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether trouble codes for an air leak on the charge air side are stored, and troubleshoot those first
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the sensor value in live data at idle and see whether it stays at the same value
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the sensor resistance and replace the sensor if it is faulty
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power, especially at take-off
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
