What does this fault code mean?
On bank 2 the code is set when large differences between the front and rear oxygen sensors push the rear sensor's adjustment into one of its limit positions. Although it is named too lean, the condition is the difference between the two sensors.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in the connections
- Air leaking into the exhaust system
- Damaged front oxygen sensor
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the exhaust system for air leaks and remedy any leaks found
- 2Look at the connectors to the bank 2 oxygen sensors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Draw conclusions from other stored trouble codes before deciding which oxygen sensor to replace
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop establish which oxygen sensor is damaged, so that the correct part is replaced
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) on
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
