What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the throttle motor through its internal power stage and monitors the inlet control valve. The code is set when the ECM detects a fault in controlling the throttle motor or in the PWM signal to the inlet control valve, or when the output stage inside the ECM becomes too hot.
Possible causes
- Open circuit on the signal wire
- Signal wires short-circuited
- Damaged throttle unit
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Overheated throttle unit
- Open circuit in the power supply
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the throttle unit has no open circuit or short circuit
- 3Check that the connectors to the throttle unit are secure and free from oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is still active
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle unit and its control
Symptoms you may notice4
- The car runs with poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- Check engine warning lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- Warning symbol and text message shown in the driver information display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
