What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor through internal power stages. The code is set when the module detects a fault in that control, such as an open circuit or a short to ground. The code is stored once the conditions are met.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connectors
- An open circuit in the signal wire to the throttle unit
- The signal wires have shorted together
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the code with the ignition on. When nothing is found, the problem may have cleared by itself
- 3Check that the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module are secure and free from corrosion
- 4Look for chafing and breaks in the signal wires to the throttle unit, and use a multimeter to confirm they have no contact with ground or with each other
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the throttle position in live data while pressing and releasing the accelerator
- 6If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the control
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
