What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor through internal power stages. The code is set when the module detects a fault in that control, where the current to the throttle motor is outside its normal range. The fault belongs to the electrical control of the throttle unit.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the throttle motor
- The signal wires are short-circuited
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the engine control system are intact
- 2Read the code, note it, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and at the engine control module for loose connections, corrosion and oxidation
- 4Look for chafing, pinching and breaks in the wiring to the throttle unit, and use a multimeter to confirm it has no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
