What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the throttle position using the feedback from the throttle unit. The code is set when that feedback shows the throttle position does not change even though the module is regulating it. It concerns throttle actuator A, and the code gives no more specific fault type.
Possible causes
- The throttle unit motor receives no supply voltage
- A fault in the fuses for the engine control module
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film, dust or ice
- The throttle unit is incorrectly adapted
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the engine control system are intact
- 2With the ignition on: read the throttle position in live data and check that the value is reasonable as you press the accelerator to different positions
- 3With the ignition off: make sure nothing is blocking the throttle, and gently press the throttle plate to see whether it sticks
- 4Clean the throttle unit if needed, and check the connectors for loose connections and oxidation
- 5An incorrect adaptation value can cause it. To reset, briefly disconnect the battery pole, reconnect it and hold the ignition in position II for a while
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Engine lacks power, especially when moving off
- Engine hesitates or jerks during acceleration or deceleration
- Idle speed is too high, even when not accelerating
- Cruise control will not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
- The supply to the throttle unit is cut off, so the throttle plate turns to its spring-loaded position
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
