What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor through internal power stages. The code is set when the module detects a fault in that control. Here the signal wire is short-circuited to ground, which means it touches the vehicle body, and the code is checked with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the code with the ignition on, note it down and see whether it is still present
- 3Look for chafing and pinching on the signal wire to the throttle unit, especially where the cable runs close to the body
- 4Use a multimeter to confirm the signal wire has no contact with ground (the vehicle body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the throttle position in live data and check that it follows the accelerator pedal as you press it
- 6If the code remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
