What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor through internal power stages and has found a fault in that control. The fault is a short to ground or an open circuit in the wiring. Connectors, wires and the throttle unit itself may be behind it.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- An open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wires are short-circuited
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the code with the ignition on, note it down and see whether it is still present
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the wires to the throttle unit, and use a multimeter to confirm they have no contact with ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the throttle position in live data while the accelerator is pressed and released
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
