What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor with a PWM signal through an internal power stage, and it also monitors the intake control valve. The code is set when the PWM signal is too low, for example to the intake control valve. The fault is general and has no more specific fault type, and it is checked with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- Damaged throttle unit
- Damaged intake control valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the code with the ignition on and see whether it is still active
- 3Look for chafing on the signal wire to the throttle unit, especially where it may have touched the vehicle body
- 4Use a multimeter to confirm the signal wire has no contact with ground (the vehicle body)
- 5Check that the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module are secure and free from corrosion
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the intake control valve
Symptoms you may notice5
- Poor performance
- The engine lacks power, even when moving off from a standstill
- The engine hesitates or jerks during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
