What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the throttle motor with a PWM signal and also monitors the intake control valve. The code is set when the PWM signal is too high, for example between the control module and the intake control valve. The fault is general and has no more specific fault type.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged throttle unit
- Damaged intake control valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the code and see whether it is still active
- 3Look for chafing on the signal wire to the throttle unit and the intake control valve, especially where it may have touched a live wire
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to confirm the signal wire does not become live when the ignition is switched on
- 5Check that the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit, the intake control valve and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine lacks power and performs poorly
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
