What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named stuck throttle actuator, it concerns the engine control module's internal governor for throttle angle. The code is set if that governor is damaged, or if its control signal reaches its limit while the throttle is being controlled. It can be checked while the engine is running.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Poor contact or oxidation between the engine control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor have shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
- Faulty software in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Start the engine, read the code and note it down
- 3Check that the throttle is not blocked and moves freely, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 4With the ignition off, check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Look for breaks and shorts in the throttle motor wiring, and use a multimeter to confirm it has no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out the throttle adaptation and, if needed, download new software to the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect2
- The throttle returns to its spring-loaded position
- Fuel supply may be shut off temporarily
