What does this fault code mean?

The code means that the engine control module's internal governor for throttle angle is damaged, or that its control signal falls below the permitted range while the throttle is being controlled. It can be checked while the engine is running.

    Possible causes

    • Poor contact or oxidation between the control module and the throttle unit
    • The throttle sticks or is clogged with oil film or dust
    • An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the throttle motor wiring
    • The throttle motor wires have shorted to each other
    • Damaged throttle unit
    • Faulty software in the engine control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact
    2. 2Read the code while the engine is running and note it down
    3. 3Check that the throttle is not blocked and moves freely when the accelerator is pressed
    4. 4With the ignition off, check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for looseness and oxidation
    5. 5Have a workshop carry out the throttle adaptation and, if needed, download new software to the engine control module
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle motor wiring and the throttle unit

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The engine lacks power and performs poorly
    • The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally

    What the fault can affect2

    • The throttle returns to its spring-loaded position
    • Fuel supply may be shut off temporarily

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
