What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that its internal governor for throttle angle is damaged, or that its control signal reaches its limit while the throttle is being controlled. Condensation in the throttle unit can freeze when the car cools down, which can make the throttle freeze solid. This code is informational only.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks, is blocked or has frozen solid, for example from oil film, dust or ice
- Poor contact or oxidation between the control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the throttle motor wiring
- The throttle motor wires are shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
- Faulty software in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1The code is for information and does not in itself call for any action
- 2Read the code with the engine running and note whether it is active
- 3In cold weather, check that the throttle is not frozen and moves freely, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for looseness and oxidation
- 5Use a multimeter to confirm the throttle motor wires have no contact with ground or supply voltage and are not shorted to each other
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and, if needed, download new software to the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect2
- The throttle goes back to its spring-loaded rest position
- Fuel shut-off may happen temporarily
