What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that its internal governor for the throttle angle is damaged, or that the governor's control signal reaches its limit while the throttle is being controlled. The code belongs to the forced limited engine speed system.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation between the control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor have shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
- Faulty software in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read the code with the engine running and note it down
- 3Check that the throttle is not sticking and can move freely, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the throttle motor wires have no contact with ground or supply voltage and are not shorted to each other
- 6Have a workshop decide whether the software in the engine control module needs reloading and whether the throttle unit needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine lacks power and performs poorly
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The throttle goes back to its spring-loaded rest position
- Fuel supply may be cut off temporarily
