What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the requested throttle position with the actual position. The code is set when the throttle cannot close and sticks in the open position, which reduces the brake vacuum. It is an information code that occurs together with another fault code, and the code can be cleared once the underlying fault is fixed.
Possible causes
- An object is blocking the throttle plate, such as oil film or dust
- Damaged throttle unit
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Fix the other stored fault code first, since this code never appears on its own
- 2Check that nothing is blocking the throttle and that it is not sticking, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for loose connections and oxidation
- 4Once the underlying fault is fixed, clear this code and test drive to confirm it does not return
- 5If the fault remains after these steps, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Reduced braking performance
- A message appears in the text display
- The vehicle's top speed is reduced
- The Check engine light comes on
- Poor response from the accelerator pedal
What the fault can affect1
- The vehicle's top speed is limited
