What does this fault code mean?

The fault means the throttle cannot move as it should during an adaptation attempt. The engine control module finds that the movement is impeded, or that the return spring is not working properly. It counts as a component fault where something is blocking the throttle.

    Possible causes

    • The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
    • Contact resistance or oxidation between the control module and the throttle unit
    • An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
    • The wires to the throttle motor have shorted to each other
    • Damaged throttle unit

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the stored codes in the control module first, and fix any stored codes for the throttle unit, the position sensor or the control module
    2. 2Check that the fuses are intact
    3. 3With the ignition off, gently press the throttle plate and check whether it sticks or is blocked
    4. 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
    5. 5Look for breaks in the wiring to the throttle motor, and use a multimeter to check that it is not shorted to ground, supply voltage or other wires
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the throttle unit needs replacing

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
    • Poor performance

    What the fault can affect1

    • Depending on the fault, the control module may cut the supply to the throttle motor, and the throttle then goes to its spring-loaded position

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
