What does this fault code mean?
During an attempt to adapt the throttle unit, the engine control module has found that the throttle is held back, or that its opening spring is not functioning correctly. The fault is a component fault with incorrect operation, and it may lie in the throttle, the wiring or the control module.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation between the control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor have shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the control module and fix any stored codes for the throttle unit, the position sensor or the control module first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3With the ignition off, gently press the throttle plate and check whether it sticks or is blocked
- 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Look for breaks and shorts in the wiring to the throttle motor, and use a multimeter to confirm it is not shorted to ground, supply voltage or other wires
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the throttle unit needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Depending on the fault, the control module may cut the supply to the throttle motor, and the throttle then aims to return to its spring-loaded position
