What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has noticed that the throttle is blocked during an adaptation attempt, or that the opening spring does not work as it should. It is a component fault in which something is stopping the throttle.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the engine control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor are shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the control module first and fix any that are stored
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3With the ignition off, check that the throttle is not sticking or blocked by dirt or an object, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for loose connections and oxidation
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the throttle motor wires have no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the throttle unit needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Depending on the fault, the control module can cut the supply to the throttle motor, and the throttle then heads for its spring-loaded position
