What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the signals from the throttle unit and has registered an electrical fault in which the throttle unit draws an unreasonably high current. The fault is general and has no more specific fault type.
Possible causes
- Cables to the throttle unit are short-circuited to supply voltage or ground
- Electrical fault in the throttle unit, with unreasonably high current consumption
- Damaged engine control module
- An open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wires are short-circuited to each other
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2With the ignition on, read the throttle position in live data and check that the value is reasonable at different pedal positions
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the cables are not shorted to supply voltage or ground
- 4Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for loose connections and oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine performs worse
- Uneven idle
- The cruise control does not work at all
- A message appears in the text display
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
- The supply to the throttle unit is cut, so the throttle plate moves to its spring-loaded position
